Playlist for June 9, 2010

You didn't acheive squat today. Jacques Cartier on the other hand rode his sturdy three masted ship up the St. Lawrence 576 years ago today. What did you discover? Probably not a land of freedom and equality. Screw you listener. You might as well get cozy, because listening to our show is going to be the best thing you do this night, guaranteed.

Playlist for May 12, 2010

Another Wednesday, another day when I could be performing stand-up comedy. In case you haven't heard about it, there is an open mic comedy event every Wednesday at Vangelis on Broadway. It's generally a good time and I have been meaning to perform a five-minute set for some time, but I always chicken out and use the radio show as an excuse.

Well, since we're all here, let's check out this week's excellent playlist featuring great songs by Born Ruffians, The Sadies, and an amazing new track by LCD Soundsystem to close off the show from their upcoming album This Is Happening. Listen, download, share, and most importantly, please support these artists if you like their stuff.

Playlist:

Shawn Clarke - Behind You [herohill]
Born Ruffians - What to Say
Avi Buffalo - Remember Last Time [yellowstereo]
The Morning Benders - I Wanna Be Like You (Jungle Book cover) [filesavr]
The National - Anyone's Ghost [full album stream]
Ketch Harbour Wolves - Photograph [i♥music]
The Sadies - Another Year Again

Young Rival - Ghost in the Park [i♥music]
Shout Out Louds - Walls
Pick A Piper - Rooms [myspace]

LCD Soundsystem are releasing their final album This Is Happening on May 18. Here's the excellent video for their single "Drunk Girls" which was directed by Spike Jonze.

An exciting show this week, with new songs from three of Canada's biggest bands: Wolf Parade, The New Pornographers, and the first new effort since 2005 by Toronto's Broken Social Scene. Thanks for checking us out. Here's the playlist.

Playlist:
Levek - Loon and the Lion
The Middle East - Blood
Donlands & Mortimer - Osmosis
Faded Paper Figures - Logos [box.net]
Surfer Blood - Twin Peaks
Mystery Jets - Flash a Hungry Smile
Wolf Parade - Ghost Pressure
Milks and Rectangles - Cakewalk [i♥music]
Josh Ritter - Storm Windows (John Prine cover)
Royal Wood - On Top of Your Love [herohill]
The New Pornographers - Your Hands [herohill]
Broken Social Scene - Texico Bitches
Atmosphere - Yesterday
The Knux - Floozy [free ep]
Shad - Yaa I Get It
Aloe Blacc - I Need A Dollar

Here are some cool videos. The first is the music video for the song "What To Say" by Born Ruffians from their upcoming album Say It.

Perennial favourites of the show Sebastien Grainger (formerly of Death From Above) and Josh Reichmann (currently of The Josh Reichmann Oracle Band) have formed a group together, awesomely titled Bad Tits. They're using the familiar aspects of their old music, heavy guitar from Grainger and amazing synth from Reichmann, but they treat them very differently. Through some substantial producing they come up with a new sound that should delight their older fans. Also, the video is wacky and awesome.

Bad Tits - Bankok Hilton from Hand Drawn Dracula on Vimeo.

Finally, London, ON emcee Shad, has a new album about to be released title TSOL. Yaa, I Get It is the first single from the album, and the video feature Shad roaming the streets in a distinct 99 Problems style.

Playlist for April 28th, 2010

We've got a good show planned for you, including some very Carrribean cover fire. It's gonna be a crazy party. Also, if you're in town tomorrow (Thursday, April 29) head over to Louis' to check out Def 3 and Kay the Aquanaut [link]. It promises to be real.

All right homies, let's get down to some real shit. There was a sad passing last week that we forgot to mention properly on the show. Devon Clifford, the drummer for Vancouver band You Say Party! We Say Die! collapsed on stage and later died of a brain hemmorage a Vancouver hospital. A sad day for everyone on the Canadian music scene. The drummer is the backbone of any group and he kept YSP!WSD! going.

It's a damn shame.
