Matthew's Finest

Whoa! Here I am, alive and well. A little behind the times but somehow still ahead of the curve.

This week the ridiculously heated struggle between Ishmael, my cartoonishly villainous co-host, and I comes to it's crescendo. Our chosen venue for the titanic battle of minds? The unfettered field of song choosing and publishing. My pick for this week is an enchanting little ditty from The Robot Ate Me, titled Tonight. I first heard this song many years ago when a friend of mine turned me on to it, and I rediscovered it recently when I rescued a forgotten cache of old CDs from my sister's car.

As I understand it, the young man who wrote and performed the song is from the United States, is very cute, and had a beard at one time. Something we can all enjoy.

Ishmael's SotW for Feb 27, 2008

Hey everyone! If you listened to the last part of the show today you would have heard my Song of the Week. In case you missed it though, here's a little ear candy.

New York's Mobius Band released a six-song EP on their website for Valentine's day covering Digital Love by Daft Punk and several other songs. Though the original song by the daft duo is still hella good, Mobius Band put an interesting spin on it. Listen to it here:

Ishmael's SotW for Feb 20, 2008

Matthew is setting this up as a rivalry but I refuse to compete. Instead, I'll humiliate Matthew by telling the world about his bed-wetting... And now he just needs to actually wet his bed for my whole crazy scheme to work.

My song of the week is Sad Sad City by Ghostland Observatory. I'm a sucker for anything electronica and Ghostland Observatory definitely delivers with this ditty from their 2006 album Paparazzi Lightning. The group is made up of only two guys (one of whom wears a cape on stage) from Austin, Texas. Their latest album, Robotique Majestique, is due out on March 4th. Until then, please enjoy this musical offering:

Matthew's Finest

Well folks, this is the inaugural flight of our blog. It's in working order and, in the spirit of competition, I am inciting a rivalry between myself and my co-host Ishmael. That's right everybody, like gladiators of the airwaves/datastream, we shall be competing here for your love and affection. Our medium; publicly shared music. Our weapons; white hot rock songs. That's right, it's the first of many installments of, Matthew's Chosen Few.

My pick for this week is, I feel, the standout hit from this week's playlist; C'mon Baby Say Bang Bang, is a rollicking little hit by Jane Vain and the Dark Matter. The sultry sweet voice of this Canadian songstress may just steal your heart away, so beware all ye who enter here; bliss lies in ambush.

Kickin' it off with Style!

Hey everybody, in case you were wondering, I have no intention of posting this weeks playlist, unless my co-host or I get bored at around 2 in the morning. So if you enjoyed any of the songs on this weeks edition of the show, well, good for you. but you'll have to rely on old school hard-lined detective work to find out the titles.

Next week we should be committing ourselves to this in earnest. Earnestly.
