Matthew's Finest

Hey Hey Hey. Today I'm reporting to you from the heart of corporate Saskatoon. Bringing you the songs I love from the job I have an entirely healthy dislike for. Staff meetings can be boring, but The Coathangers never are. They have stolen my heart so consistently with each new song that I hear, it's amazing that I haven't doctored my family photos to include them yet.

This week's song is called Shake Shake, and it is joining the pantheon of Coathangers songs that I have tried to foist upon the unsuspecting public. Bon Appétit!

SotW for June 25th, 2008

Well, there's no playlist this week. We were expecting a trainee to come by and choose her own songs. Unfortunately, she didn't show and we just played whatever was at hand.

Anyway, here's my song of the week. Phantom Planet are best known for a former band member, the talented Jason Schwartzman. However, even without him they're a catchy California band, the kind of California band that sounds British for some reason. Here's their catchy tune, Do The Panic.

Matthew's Finest

Well well welly welly well. Look who it is. Thought you culd just come traipsing back in here and take all the songs you like? Well, ok then.

In keeping with the disjointed and amateurish farce that was today's show, the song that I'm submitting for your listening enjoyment is actually two songs! I know, this is highly unorthodox, but if you just give them a chance, you'll see why.

The first song is one that we did play on the show, but only to fill time. It's called Janet and it's performed fantastically by The Format. It's also a song that is entirely devoid of any easily accessible tabs. So if anyone encounters them out there on the World Wide Web, drop me a line.

The Format - Janet
And the next musical masterpiece that I'm putting out there is a song that we did not play on the show this week. 'Why?' you might ask. Well the answer is simple; because my love for these young ladies is too pure and too beautiful to be sullied by the cruel medium of public radio. They are delicate flowers, beautiful souls, and dirty, little potty-mouths, which is where my love becomes truest of all. The song is from The Coathangers and it is called Parking Lot. I know nothing of the band, and I don't intend to find anything out because they're already as perfect as they'll ever be.

My Song of the Week is one we wanted to play near the end of the show but we ran out of time. It's one of my favourite songs from the last year and it's still great. Please enjoy.

Matthew's Finest

Well, there's no way in hell that I'm going to be living up to Ishmael's post this week. God damn that guy, makin' me look like some kind of MS paint noob. And stealing my joke premise on top of it all. There's no end to his shame. No end in sight...

screw it...

SotW for June 11th, 2008

Well, who knew that a folk artist from San Francisco would write a protest song about Guantanamo Bay? I would have never guessed such a thing. Still, Sean Hayes (not Jack from Will & Grace) delivers a soulful dose of reality with his song No No Guantanamo. However, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they throw him into Gitmo for "speaking out" and it doesn't help that he looks like the Unabomber.

Sean Hayes has made this song freely available on his website and his myspace and I'm doing my part to share it with loyal CFCR listeners who can work a computer. (Thank you both.)

Well, well, well. Looks like we've got a special interloping guest this week. I don't like him, he's too rugged and unpolished. Not at all the sort of standard that I normally hold myself to. But I am a professional, and I shan't let this distract me.

SotW for June 4th, 2008

Yo yo yo, muthafuckaaaaahs!
I'm sorry, that was rude. My choice for this week's showcase is Kids by London's Goodtimes Goodtimes. It's probably the band's name that does it for me but the song is pretty catchy as well.

My favourite line:
I was born to let you know I love you

Wow, 4 hours of radio really takes it out of a guy. I'll need a tall cool budweiser and a long nap to recoup.

This week I picked a song by The Format called Janet. It's a song that has captured my heart and will maintain it's hold for a great many years to come.
Every once in a long while I'll come across a song that forces me to spread my vocal wings and try my hand at some impromptu karaoke, and I find it almost impossible to listen to this song without at least humming. If I was at a funeral and this song was stuck in my head I would burst out in a joyous refrain, dancing with the corpse, and high-fiving the mortuary guys. People would be upset at first, but as soon as the moment was comfortably in the past they'd be cool with it.
